tempo
This series was born from a trip in 2019 to the village of Suello in East Sardinia which is inhabited by approximately 970 people. It is considered a blue zone, a term used to describe parts of the world where people live longer than average which include centenarians. Their secret? A life of manual labor, a flexitarian diet of vegetables with little meat and a positive outlook that contributes to their mental health. I met Peppito, a farmer who still tends to his garden at 102. Guiseppe, 103, tells us about Mussolini and surviving a concentration camp during WW2. Maria, refuses to give up her license and continues to drive at 97. Alfredo, 95, walks up and down the hilly landscapes and never misses a card game with the boys every afternoon, promptly followed by a single glass of wine.
Tempo, Italian for time. A reminder to live in the now.
